From 40G to 100G, to future-oriented higher-rate WDM such as 400G and 1T, the requirements for system signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) and optical fiber transmission performance (FOM) are higher, while the G.654E ultra-low loss large effective area optical fiber is expected to usher in large-scale commercial use in the super 100G era. Based on the excellent transmission performance of G.654E optical fiber and its own future development needs, the three major operators are actively promoting the application of G.654E optical fiber. In this process, China Unicom has played a vanguard role and is ready to start the centralized procurement of G.654E optical fiber. In recent years, China Unicom has made continuous efforts in the promotion and application of G.654E optical fiber. In order to verify the performance and environmental adaptability of the new G.654E optical fiber optic cable and meet the construction needs of ultra-high-speed, ultra-large-capacity, and ultra-long-distance optical transmission networks such as 400G and even future 1T, China Unicom launched a live network test of the new G.654E optical fiber optic cable, launched two test projects,"Jinan-Qingdao Section Optical Cable" and "Hami-Balikun Section Optical Cable", and have successfully completed acceptance. In addition, China Unicom also actively called on the industry to pay attention to G.654E optical fiber and submitted multiple proposals, promoting the completion of the formulation of the ITU G.654 optical fiber standard. At the same time, China Unicom started the short-listed test of G.654E optical fiber technology, and decided to start the bidding and procurement of G.654E optical fiber and cable within the year. China Mobile has also shown strong interest in G.654E optical fiber. It has continuously tested the performance and comprehensive cost of G.654 optical fiber. It has been concluded from a large number of tests that the introduction of G.654 ultra-low-loss optical fiber can not only improve transmission performance, but also reduce the total system cost by 20%. Not long ago, China Mobile also completed the first domestic single-carrier 400G OTN equipment test, verifying the improvement of single-carrier 400G transmission performance under new optical fiber scenarios. It can be seen that China Mobile also attaches great importance to the application and development of G.654E optical fiber in the super-100G era. When bidding for G.652D optical fiber in the backbone network, China Telecom has comprehensively required optical fiber attenuation to reach or close to LL level, and also put forward certain requirements in increasing the effective area. At the same time, China Telecom is also very optimistic about the development prospects of G.654E optical fiber and believes that using 400G for backbone networks is an inevitable choice. G.654E optical fiber is indispensable to carry 400G. The industry should actively promote relevant applications and attempts. As the basis for the continuous upgrading and expansion of telecommunications networks to 400G, G.654E optical fiber is capturing the favor of operators with its strong "charm". At present, optical fiber and cable companies at home and abroad represented by Changfei, Hengtong, Fiberhome, Corning, Prysman, Sumitomo, etc. are actively developing G.654E optical fiber. With the launch of China Unicom's G.654E optical fiber collection this year, China Mobile and China Telecom are also expected to follow suit.
